Description: Welcome! This swell old turtle pin is attributed to Billy and Lucinda Laweka. it is documented in Zuni The Art and the People, a discontinued book. The turtle shell is cowrie shell and the legs, neck and tail are inlaid turquoise and inlaid jet. And there is mother of pearl inlaid into the cowrie shell. The hand made silver work includes plain bezels and scalloped wirework framing of the turtle's body. This is a charming work of art! Excellent vintage, wearable and collectible condition. This is an elegant pin sized at 1" L x 1" W, weight 8.9grams and it's in great vintage condition. The pin is not signed by the artists but is usual for those times, not marked for silver content, but it is sterling silver and it was made by Billy and Lucinda Laweka. The stones seem alive; they are so vibrant. The natural use of the cowrie shell is creative and so special. This couple's work is well documented for this turtle's beautiful design. This is a great collector's piece and it's delightful to wear. It is a real treasure. Just beautiful!
