Zenith Special Pilot watch WW2 Pre 1920 1930 vintage

This is a bold antique Zenith 'Special' pilot watch from pre WW2, Similar to the the actual watch catalogued by Konrad Knirim in his authoratative "Military Timepieces" on page 373. Watches like this one were used by the fledging Luftwaffe as well as the Czech airforce. Zenith being one of the many watch companies that produced watches of this unique style known now as the '1928 pattern' pilots watches. Or WW2 German 'fliegeruhr'. This particular version is an older version - the movement '2126248' can be dated to 1917 which may explain why it is signed 'George Favre Jacot' - the founder of Zenith as opposed to the later versions of these pilot's watches which are simply signed 'Zenith'. This example is also a negative set - the crown must be pushed in to set the time, rather than out. This watch was designed for pilots before and during the Second World War, it has a rotating bezel and pointer to mark time increments. For a watch of this era it is large with sturdy 41mm case diameter, perfect for todays standards. The crystal is a fabulous thick round of beveled glass! There is a glass dust cover to protect the excellent movement. It is the watch that partly inspired Zenith's modern homage watch - the Zenith Special Pilot. This is a great opportunity to own and wear an interesting piece of military history and generally just a cool looking watch. Some wear commensurate with its age. Recently serviced (Jan 2024) It is running well and keeping good time. This is not a waterproof watch.Case: 41mm diameter, screw back case.
