Description: Here is a very nice WW2 fighting knife carried by a U.S. soldier in the Pacific. 7 3/8 inch blade shows makers name & "made in Mexico". Nice period edge. Some staining to blade but no rust or pitting. Thin steel oval guard with wood one piece grip. Tang peened at end. Real nice leather sheath with an imprint of the Mexican eagle/snake and the maker A. Saldana. Same maker as knife. Soldiers name / service number and some other info. is inked on front of sheath. Reads: R. Sciallo / ASN 39416443 / 1944 / New Guinea. I did some research and found: he was drafted from either Alaska, Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, or Washington state. The 39 in his ASN indicates this. I also found a Ralph Sciallo drafted 6/Nov/43 as a private. From Placer County, California. Born in 1909. White, grammar school education. Civilian job listed as sales clerk. Single with no dependents. Just an outstanding example of a private purchase knife by a U.S. soldier for service in WW2. I WILL entertain offers.
