Description: WBritain D-Day to VE-Day series was issued in 1994. The Naval Forces set number 8862. The massive naval operation to transport the invasion forces from the UK to France, took a colossal effort by the British and American Navies. After the initial assault, the landing craft and assault craft were relived from their cross channel work as the fighting moved inland and more of the French Ports were liberated. The Royal Marines were to use their gun equipped assault craft again during the Allied Landings on the Scheldt Estuary in Holland, where they provided close artillery support from their specially equipped vessels.
