Description: Textbook from the Chicago School of Nursing. This was a correspondence course that people could take to train as a nurse. The school was established in 1899, and appears to be gone by 1953. Interestingly, there is at least one newspaper article from the 1930s that said that graduates of this school were not qualified to work in the state of Connecticut, as they only did bookwork, and no clinical work, prior to graduation. This book is arranged in lessons, looking like students were sent a lesson at a time during their training. It's an interesting look into nursing education of decades past. Undated, it appears to be most likely one of the last volumes in the early 50s, but may be late forties. It's difficult to date accurately due to how nurses uniforms appeared during those eras. About 3" thick, it has hard covers that are threaded through a lace for binding, so that the individual lessons could be added one at a time. Good used condition with some minor shelfwear and foxing to pages. I do my best to describe my items accurately. Please ask questions prior to purchase, as I do not accept refunds.
