Description: Northwest Coast Native American hand-carved dance paddle purchased in 1998 from a Native American owned and run store in Crescent City, California. It’s a nice example of local tribal art measuring 12” x 1 1/2” and has fully intact original paint with nice patina! The reverse side is unpainted and the grain looks like redwood. This ceremonial dance paddle features an eagle and other geometric shapes with outlines all burned into the wood and painted. These carved designs with burnished edges make it look 3D and similar to cloisonné from a distance. I don’t know the tribal affiliation of the paddle but have been told its’ from a design of the Haida or Tlingit Nation.
