Description: "Chistochina Girl" Shown standing on the tundra of the Copper River Valley, the 16,200 foot Mt. Sanford of the Wrangell Range in the background, this Barbie doll is dressed in the authentic style of the people who have lived in Alaska's remote Copper River valley for 10,000 years, eventually opened to whites in the 1800s. (Photo of Ahtna girl shown for reference, map shows Ahtna region of Alaska.) Her clothing and accessories are handmade from leather, fur and other available items. The dress, the one-piece pants and boots, and the tiny fur trimmed moccasins are all leather. She carries with her a tiny 'copper' knife/spearhead as were once made by the Ahtna, and a tiny 'caribou antler scraper.'As was typical of Ahtna women when migrating over 150 miles across soaring mountain ranges, she carries a large packon her back, constructed in the authentic style, along with her baby in a 'birch bark' baby carrier. She wears jewelry made of copper and real dentalium shells and Russian 'trade beads.' Her dress is decorated with white 'buttons' which were once obtained by the Ahtna people from the Russians in trade for furs, and she carries a handmade 'birch bark' basket in case she comes across a good berry patch in her travels. Since I never duplicate my dolls, she truly is one of a kind. Of all the dolls I've dressed, this one is my favorite.A collector's item, she is not meant for children due to fragile parts and possible choking hazards. Price includes the vintage Barbie doll, clothing and accessories, and I will pay the postage to ship her from Alaska. Mountain and black and white photo not included in sale.
