Description: USS Shaw DD-373 US Navy destroyer was almost destroyed on 7 December 1941 at Pearl Harbor. Blue photo of this Pearl Harbor 1941 ship on a un-gummed envelope. Cover franked with a 58 cent US Flag stamp # 5657, a 10 cent radiant star stamp # 5832 (FDOI) and a 3 cent USN stamp # 935. Cover with DIY matte and frame 5x7 makes a fine gift for former sailors. USS Shaw: a naval cover for this proud destroyer that was in a dry-dock and was nearly destroyed by three enemy bombs during the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. An iconic photo of her forward magazine exploding was widely published. Cover postmarked on Feb 19, 2024 at Star, Idaho. Blue photo of the USS Shaw on cachet #3409 by Alvin Eckert,USCS #9964. This 341 foot Mahan Class destroyer was built in Philadelphia and commissioned in 1936. This fine vessel was repaired and fought in the Pacific Theater of WW II and earned eleven WW II battle stars!
