Description: Thomas Mann Design Artisan Signed Techno-Romantic Design Dangle Single Earring in the design of a Hand with a Rabbit ~ (2-1/2 inches x 1-1/2 inches)Circa 1986 - Signed "PNH 86" This is a wonderful techno-romantic dangle earring made by Thomas Mann in a Steampunk style that features a hand holding a small red dome and a rabbit jumping (over a moon?) at the bottom. It has a long sterling fish hook for a pierced ear. Mann is known for his whimsical pieces and this is one of his earlier pieces. These pieces are RARE and one-of-a-kind. If Thomas Mann Design made a similar piece, each was distinguished by different elements and colors. His work is getting harder to find and is highly sought after. I purchased this single handmade earring by Thomas Mann at a Jewelry Shop in the Dupont Circle area of Washington, D.C. in 1986. It was only worn a few times and has been with me in a jewelry box since 1990 when I embarked on several moves. A single earring can be worn by itself, leaving the other ear bare or balanced with another earring to create a mismatched look. This trend picked up as multiple ear piercing gained popularity. So, yes, it is ok to wear mismatched or asymmetrical earrings. The beauty of personal style is that there are no rules! This earring is original with a nice aged patina. Made of mixed metals (silver, brass, bronze) with acrylic stone cabochons and "found materials" by world renowned metal artist, Thomas Mann. This earring measures 2-1/2 inches in drop from the top of the silver French wire hook and the hand measures 1-1/2 inches in length and 1-1/2 inches at the widest part.It is marked on the front thumb: "PNH 86" and the Thomas Mann Design logo is inscribed on the back.If you love Thomas Mann pieces, I have several more I will be listing. Please check back at Barbara's Backdoor Store. This will be carefully packaged in a vintage box and shipped to you in an outer box via USPS MailTHANKS FOR STOPPING BY NOTES: Thomas Robert Mann (born 1947) is an American jewelry artist known primarily for his metalsmithing and assemblage techniques. Combining industrial-style metals with found trinkets and baubles, Mann has dubbed his style "Techno-Romantic" and runs Studio I/O in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he now lives and works. Mann was born in Northampton, Pennsylvania and raised in Allentown, Pennsylvania. His father was a machinist for Bethlehem Steel, an influence to which Mann credits his "fondness for machines." While in high school, Mann experimented with jewelry-making and worked at a silversmith shop in Allentown. The jewelry he sold during his teen years helped fund his education at East Stroudsburg University, where he earned a degree in performing arts in 1970. In 1977, Mann began exhibiting at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and later established his home and studio in New Orleans in 1982.
