( see photos) George Edward Madeley (1798-1858) British engraver, lithographer and printer was recognized for his portraits of prominent people, medical atlases, botanical works, wall charts and separate prints. He also created a series of lithographed satiric designs of tradesmen, based on the compositions of G. Spratt. Madeley's works are held at the British National Portrait Gallery, the British Museum and the V&A. Madeley was busy and financially successful, he tended to focus upon niche commissions, such that his print runs tended to be very limited; almost all his works are very rare today.
