Description: A Centennial Reissue. "A Monthly Journal devoted to Oriental Philosophy, Art, Literature and Occultism, embracing Mesmerism, Spiritualism and Other Secret Sciences conducted by H. P. Blavatsky, Bombay, India" The Color used on the cover is an innovation of 1979, but the basic design of the line drawing by Mr. Wimbridge is as the original, but in positive, instead of negative. The color portions were black, and all type and line were light. The original was photographed, enlarged to 36" x 48", cleaned up , and then reduced to 89% of the original, to facilitate modern printing and binding equipment. It is regrettable that the exact full size could not be retained, without excessive cost. This reproduction is photographed from the 1884 edition of "Volume One of the Theosophist." It is verbatim with the 1879-80 issues, and has a slightly heavier typeface that greatly helped photographic processing. The original issues were printed with a very fine and attractive type, that was however, so light as to defy reproduction in many places. Considering that the entirety of the 320 pages were reset by hand, including the mathematics, music, and the rest, is a point of no small wonder. It is not known how many of these complete first year volumes were run in 1884. The present centennial reissue comprises 2000 copies.
