He knew many of the people involved, and treated all with respect. Many of the soldiers were still alive when he wrote the book. Included are letters from General Carpenter, some of the survivors of Beecher's Island and the fighting near Fort Phil Kearny, etc.The book is complete and in VERY GOOD condition with some overall wear. There is a name and date written on the top right corner of the front free endpaper. (see pictures)
