Description: From my personal collection! Don't snooze and lose out on this gorgeous box!!!!!!!!!!!!! In the style of Alfred DAGUET, neo-Gothic LARGE box decorated with fantastic animals in embossed tin, circa 1900, takes its inspiration from medieval stories and the gargoyles at cathedrals like Notre Dame. Box signed by P. BARY, who someone told me years ago was a student of Daguet? Art Nouveau box in the shape of a shrine in a wooden structure sheathed with a embossed tin plaques, enhanced with polychrome faceted glass cabochons in inlay.Box with sloping lid, hinged opening, lock (sorry, no key), original lining Alfred-Louis-Achille DAGUET (1875-1942) decorative artist and metallurgist specializing in embossed copper panels, Daguet is one of the most recognized figures of Belle Époque goldsmithing. Box signed by P. BARY, who someone told me years ago was a student of Daguet? He said he had info on this but could not find it for me. Daguet exhibited at the Salon of French Artists between 1900 and 1910 and at the Salon national des beaux-arts in 1904. A student of the great Jean-Léon Gérôme, his life remains little documented. In Paris, his workshop was located above Siegfried Bing's famous showroom: the Maison de l'Art Nouveau. In the store, alongside the creations of Alfred Daguet, we found the biggest names in Art Nouveau such as Louis Comfort Tiffany, Clément Massier, Eugène Gaillard and Georges de Feure.Fully part of the Art Nouveau movement, these boxes have all the aesthetic characteristics of this period which attracted an upscale clientele like the famous Sarah Bernhardt. The colored cabochons, integrated into the chimerical animal motifs in embossed pewter, give the whole thing a striking appearance.Very good condition, with some minor defects due to its age (see photos)DimensionsHeight: 9 1/2"Length: 10.5"Width: 7"Buyer to pay actual s/i, if more than my guesstimate.
