Bronze dore is also known as gilt bronze or ormolu and is basically a bronze frame plated with a metal alloy coating to try and imitate gold. This particular piece has been in my personal collection since the year 2000 and is a very nice quality piece. The plaque and frame shown in my photos are the actual items you will receive. Please be sure to read the “Age and Condition” and “Approximate Dimensions” paragraphs below.The plaque is extremely well painted (it is 100% hand painted) by a very skilled artist. The artist’s signature is at the lower right edge of the plaque and appears to me to read “T. Leroy.” The subject is wearing a very unusual hat or headdress with long dangling pearl earrings. The plaque is very colorful, exhibiting the lovely “metallic foil” colors that are common to pieces enameled in the Limoges, France region. The portrait is very life-like and just stunning! I find no identifying markings of any type on the metal frame. A strikingly beautiful plaque, beautifully displayed in the bronze frame and in great original condition! I do my best to describe all items as accurately as possible and to the best of my ability. Some of my photos may be somewhat lighter or darker than actual to better show detail or color. Please look closely at the photos as they are an important part of my description of this item. Everything appears to me to be original and mostly intact. I see no chips, flea bites, cracks, hairlines or repairs to the plaque. I did remove the plaque from the frame, and it does have a couple of very minor nicks to the enamel on the very edge, none of which are visible when the plaque is in the frame. Otherwise, the plaque appears to have no visible signs of wear or use. It appears to me that the frame may have had an attached easel (for standing the frame on a shelf) at some point, but if so, that is no longer with the frame. It does have a circular hoop attached for hanging. Otherwise, I see no dents, dings, or splits to the metal; only some minor age-related tarnish or discoloration. I made no attempt to in any way to clean the frame. The fabric covered paper backing does shows age-related loss, some other signs of age and some soiling – see my photos. Please keep in mind the photos may be blown up at least 8-10 times normal, so anything you see will look 8-10 times bigger in the photos than it really is. Please note: if you see a dark spot in the photos, it is from my camera and is not a mark on the piece. It will be either just to the right of center towards the bottom or slightly above center on the right side of the photo.Approximate DimensionsThe visible part of the plaque itself in the frame is about 3.75” (9.5 cm) top to bottom by about 2.75” (7 cm) left to right. Overall, the frame is about 5.625” (14.3 cm) top to bottom by about 3.625” (6.4 cm) left to right by about .5” (1.3 cm) in overall thickness.Approximate WeightAbout 3.875 ounces (111 grams).
