Gallatin, was surgeon of the 12th New York Infantry. and he endorsed this soldier's letter. Albert H. Gallatin, was the grandson of Albert Gallatin, U.S. Senator, and Sec. of the Treasury (1801-1814), and founder of the University of the City of New York). Not only a surgeon during the war (also service in the 22nd New York), but a very learned man, a professor of five sciences from 5 different universities. Very good.
