Co. in 1892. Springville is a village that was incorporated in 1834 in southern Erie County. It is located in the foothills of the Allegany Mountains at the west end of Zoar Valley. Known for its fishing and hunting opportunities, the area has popular skiing runs in the winter. The Springville Academy was founded here in 1830 as the first high school in Erie County. Its name was changed to Springville Griffith Institute in 1867. Bell telephones were installed in the village in 1884. One year before this map's publication Dr. Ralph B. White established the Antipain Manufacturing Company in Springville. The company would develop and produce the local dental anesthetic "Novocain". The Civil War monument shown on the map was a new addition to Fiddler's Green Park. This panoramic illustrated map from 1892 shows buildings, railroad route and clearly labeled streets.
