Description: Item details Quantity: 39 piecesSize varies: mainly 14.8 x 10.4 cm Total Weight: 159 grams Description Soviet postcards, May 1st holiday, Labor Day, USSR propaganda, made in USSR. ---------------------------------- The First of May (Labor Day, Labor Day, Spring and Labor Day, International Workers' Solidarity Day) is a holiday associated with the theme of labor, celebrated under various names in many countries and territories on May 1 or the first Monday in May. After the October Revolution of 1917, the holiday became official. In the RSFSR, it was initially called "International Day", then, no later than 1972, it began to be called "International Workers' Solidarity Day - May Day" and celebrated on May 1 and 2. May 1 in the RSFSR (and then in the USSR) was a non-working day since 1918 according to the Labor Code of the RSFSR, May 2 - since 1928 according to the decree of the Central Executive Committee of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR "On holidays dedicated to the International Day, and on special days of rest" dated April 23 of that year. On May 1, workers' demonstrations and military parades were held (the first May Day parade of the Red Army took place in 1918 on Khodynka Field). On the second day of the holiday, as a rule, "Mayovkas" - mass celebrations in the open air - were held throughout the country. In the era of "developed socialism" in the USSR, May Day demonstrations began to carry a different meaning. On May Day, the workers of the USSR "express their solidarity with the revolutionary struggle of the workers of the capitalist countries, with the national liberation movement, express their determination to devote all their strength to the struggle for peace, for the construction of a communist society." Organized columns of workers marched along the central streets of the cities of all the republics and towns of the USSR to the sounds of marches and political music, loudspeakers blared greetings from announcers and political slogans, and from the stands, usually installed near the main administrative buildings, the demonstrators were greeted by the leaders of the CPSU and government officials. The event was broadcast on local television and radio channels. The country's main demonstration took place annually on Moscow's Red Square and was broadcast by central television channels, with inserts of footage of demonstrations in other major cities of the country. On May 1, 1990, the last official May Day demonstration took place, after which there was an unofficial march of supporters of "democratic" forces under anti-Soviet slogans. On May 1, 1991, a rally was held on Red Square, organized by the Moscow Federation of Trade Unions and the Association of Free Trade Unions, against price increases (M. Gorbachev, A. Lukyanov, and others were present on the Mausoleum tribune). ---------------------------------- The buyer will receive exactly the same item as in the photo. Come visit us again. Thanks and Regards.
