It was part of the Catholic Renaissance of the 20th century, in line with Leon Bloy whose friend he was. BiographyFrom 1901 to 1909, Émile Baumann was a teacher at the high school of La Roche-sur-Yon. As soon as his first novel was published, he attracted the attention of Léon Bloy. He was a great admirer of Bloy throughout his life, writing several laudatory articles on Bloy, and marrying his goddaughter at the age of 63.
