Description: Maker and age: This set of 7 elegant Limoges lunch plates has the green white ware mark number 1 of B & Co., or Bernardaud, the classic Limoges firm that has produced exceptional quality porcelain since 1863 and remains a major player in Limoges today. That mark that was in use from 1900 until 1914. The red L. Bernardaud decorator’s mark on these plates was used from around 1900 until the 1930s. Together they date the set's production to between 1900 and 1914. The red retailer's mark of F.B. & Co, Philadelphia importers of fine china, also appears. Design: The gold-trimmed pattern, called The Melrose, features a tiny black Greek key over swags of delicate pink roses. Condition: The plates have no cracks, stains, discoloration, crazing, repairs or significant wear. There is light wear to the gold trim and many tiny embedded dark spots that were created in the manufacturing process. One plate has a spot of missing paint near the edge. Another has a nick on the underside edge and several have small chips on the underside rim; these do not show when the plates are in use or on display. Size: The plates are 8 1/4 inches wide and together weigh 5 pounds 10 ounces. Please check all the photos very carefully – they are an important part of the description.
