Description: Samuel Morris: A Spirit Filled Lifeby D.E. Reed [1921] The Golden Rule Publishing Co. (Albion, Michigan), 5 1/4 x 6 7/8 inches tall stapled pamphlet in yellow printed covers, illustrated with black-and-white photographs, 32 pp. No date, but the last section of the book, captioned 'An Interesting Chapter of Sammy's Life in Liberia,' is dated October 19, 1921. Moderate soiling, rubbing and edgewear to covers, with remnants of an old tape repair to the front and rear covers and a more recent Japanese tissue repair to the spine. Prior owner's name and address to the upper corner of the title page. Creasing to a number of pages. A few instances of marginal soiling or age toning. Despite all these detractions, still a decent, solidly bound copy of this century-old religious tract. Uncommon; OCLC (No. 20477671) locates only a 30-page edition published in 1924 by the Bible Institute Colportage Association in Chicago. Samuel Kaboo Morris (1873-1893) was a Liberian prince who converted to evangelical Christianity around the age of 14. Around age 18, he left Liberia for the United States to achieve an education and arrived at Taylor University in December 1891. Morris's life has been the subject of five novels, over a dozen biographies, a 1954 film, and a 1988 documentary. Taylor University has named numerous buildings, scholarships, and a society in his honor, and his story has helped to inspire others to go to Africa to preach the Gospel.
