Description: Interesting, rare 1979 monotype of lawn bowling (likely in Southern California) by well-known Western and Cowboy artist R.S. "Ron" Riddick (b. 1952). Born in California, Riddick studied at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. Riddick worked as a commercial artist and designer in the 1970s and was also an etcher and printmaker. In the late 1970s Riddick became a fine art painter, eventually moving to Arizona. Riddick has become one of the most highly-regarded painters of the West, winning the Remington Award at the Prix de West, Cowboy Hall of Fame and the Gold Medal from Cowboy Artists of America (he was elected a member of in 1997). This early monotype by Riddick is an unusual example of his graphic work (his etchings and monotypes from the 1970s are relatively scarce). It is signed and dated lower right and inscribed "Monotype" and dated lower left. It measures 11" x 11" (image size) and is in good condition though the paper appears to have toned/yellowed. Framed and matted as shown. Please see my other auctions for more fine paintings and prints.
