Description: YUGOSLAVIA SECRET SERVICE UDBA POLICE SECURITY LEATHER HAT CAP AFTER WW2 The State Security Service (SDB or SDS, National Security Service or National Security Service), more commonly known by its original name as the State Security Administration (UDBA or UDSA, National Security Administration or State Security Administration ), was the secret police organization of Yugoslavia. Best known at all times simply by the acronym UDBA, in its most recent decades it was composed of six semi-independent secret police organizations — one for each of the six Yugoslav federal republics — coordinated by the central federal headquarters in the capital of Belgrade. Although it operated with more restraint than other secret police agencies in the communist dictatorships of Eastern Europe, the UDBA was a nonetheless a feared tool of control. It is alleged that the UDBA was responsible for the "eliminations" of enemies of the state within Yugoslavia and internationally (estimates of 200 assassinations and kidnappings). Eliminations vary from those of World War II Ustasha Croat leaders Ante Pavelic and Vjekoslav Luburic (in Spain and Argentina), to Croatian emigrant writer Bruno Busic and Serbian emigrant writer Dragisa Kashikovic. With the breakup of Yugoslavia, the breakaway republics went on to form their own secret police agencies, while the FR Yugoslavia's State Security Service kept its UDBA-era name.
