Description: Available is this striking and extremely special, very rare, late vintage Royal Hawaiian Heritage Jewelry Company sterling silver bangle bracelet that I have seen only once before, years ago when I had the good fortune of having one available for sale. I didn't expect to ever see one again. THE HISTORY OF THIS BRACELET AND RHHJYou will understand the price as you learn its history and if you ever happened to see it at the Royal Hawaiian Heritage Jewelry company website. "RHHJ" was established in Hawaii in about 1975. In 2019 I found this exact pattern listed there for $619 under the name “Premium Royal Bamboo Bracelet.” I learned that this pattern began in 1997 or so. When I checked later, it was $653. Months after that, it was gone and I never saw it there again. It had been replaced with a bracelet with the same name but with what appeared to be an attempt to copy this pattern. It looked like the original craftsman who created the pattern was no longer available to the company. I'm sure they kept the original pattern name as it was so popular (not cool). Its price became $719 and went up yet again to $761. I listed my bracelet for sale and it sold in February, 2019, for the asking price - $650. Shortly thereafter, their new attempt at listing this pattern disappeared from the RHHJ site for months, reappeared, then disappeared as of 2019. While my listing was still active, I received some very good news from a lady who used to live in Hawaii and collects high end Hawaiian jewelry, but was out of a job so couldn't buy my bracelet. She was intrigued with it and so had asked her uncle about it. She relayed: “My Anakala’, which is uncle in Hawaiian, said this bangle, the 'RHHJ Bamboo', is a sought after collectors' item in Hawaii and is almost a once in a lifetime opportunity. There weren’t that many made and if they stay on the island, they are passed down in the family. He says that if they made it off island they would be next to impossible to find! You really lucked out.” RHHJ TODAYI recently checked the RHHJ site again. They still sell those very ornate gold bracelets, including that kind with those large black letters on top of 14 kt gold, in the patterns typically found on Ebay in gold plate. In sterling they carry only the same six bangles they've had for years but nothing called Premium Royal Bamboo Bracelet (the new name they gave the one claimed to be like mine after one of its reappearances.) However, when I googled "RHHJ Bamboo" then chose "Premium Hawaiian Bracelet - Royal Bamboo" there it was - the one like mine that keeps disappearing and reappearing is back again under yet another new name. Remember: My bracelet is 100% perfect despite that camera of mine that made it look smudged and dark in spots on the photos .... The thing is PERFECT!!! THIS BRACELET Re: the exquisite bamboo pattern, certainly the combination of larger/closer leaves with small/distant leaves required craftsmanship that appear to be lost judging by RHHJ's new jewelry. This bracelet also has distinct relief and texture as part of its esthetically appealing design. This is a perfect example of the high quality of high end, hand finished jewelry only a couple of decades ago. Very special with this bracelet: It comes with the original box. I was just lucky that the original owner was so proud of this bracelet that she kept its box. This bracelet weighs a surprising 36.5 grams which causes it to have a great feel on the arm; you really know you've got something when wearing it. The interior diameter of the oval bracelet is 2.5 by 2 1/8 inches or 33 mm and its height is 1/2 inch or 12 mm. CONDITION: As with most fine things we buy, condition is essential. This bracelet is absolutely perfect with gorgeous tarnishing accenting the pattern wonderfully. There is not one mark or mistake or damage or off color areas as my annoying ex-camera (now trashed and not replaced...at $500+) makes it appear on some photos. There are no signs of wear or even the interior hairline scratches and marks that vintage sterling bangles almost always have. Polishing would make it bright and shiny if you really want that, but fine patterns disappear without tarnishing. ADVICE FOR ALL BANGLES AND RINGSBUYING: The easiest and most accurate way to ensure a bangle will fit is to measure the interior diameter (from one side across the middle to the other) of your bangles or of bangles in a store that fit, then compare the measurements with ones online that you are considering. If one side of an oval bangle is big enough, it should fit. FOR BANGLES AND RINGS YOU OWN: If a bangle, or especially a ring, is a bit tight to get on or off, coconut oil should make it slide on and off smoothly, even rings you have given up on, plus it doesn't harm the metal. I keep a tiny old lotion jar of it in my jewelry box.
