Description: "Recollections of Early Texas: Memoirs of John Holland Jenkins" is a 307 page (plus xxvi and 14 plates), 5.5"x8.75" hardcover edited by John Holmes Jenkins, III and published in 1958 by University of Texas Press (Austin). This is the first edition in book format. J. Frank Dobie wrote the foreword. Though only 13, Jenkins enrolled in the Texas Army in 1836, after which he moved to Bastrop County. He wrote these recollections of early Texas life in the 1880s for publication in the local newspaper. The book is in very good condition. The dust jacket is lightly worn at the edges, has a chip at the head of the spine, sunning to the spine. The cloth boards show minimal wear, there are no internal marks, and the binding is tight.
