Description: Beautiful and rare specimen of the German WW1 silver combat medal and original ribbon awarded by Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig, royal family of the Duchy of Hesse, which today is the German state of Hesse (Frankfurt am Main). This medal is probably the most collectible of the WW1 combat medals of the German kingdoms (in addition to the Hanseatic crosses for Bremen, Hamburg and Lubeck) given its rarity, size and the profile and detail on the face of the medal. On the back side translated "For bravery." Hand-picked from a reputable German dealer at a Militaria market in Benelux years ago (Arlon). See pictures.
