Description: VERY RARE PIECE OF MACHINERY ONLY MADE AT THE VERY START OF THE COMPANIES HISTORY. Early piece from the :Walker Turner Driver Line The first incarnation of the Driver Line tools were made to be powdered of a central motor running a belt system. Each tool would attach to this system, maybe this explains the name, as in you had 1 drive system and then added tools to it.4th last picture shows a large setup from the 1930s instruction manual. 3rd last picture from same source. Also note heavy duty models were sold alongside this with their own dedicated motors. You could buy the heavy duty Driver Lathe with owns motor or you could buy the standard lathe and run it off the Driver line motor arrangement. This specific item was sold as a separate attachment.A polishing and grinding unit. WALKER-TURNER first started sometime between 1927 to 1929, but only catalogs from 1930 exist.Although the same or similar unit featured in 1928-1929 Sears catalog. Also in sears summer 1929 catalog. 2nd last picture with $4.65 is from the 1931 Sears catalog in which this item and the range of Driver Line tools were sold. After this from 1932 catalogs, the design of this unit changed slightly, it is not shown with the tapered screw on left side and also never seen with the chuck, instead as 2 sets of clamping nuts.So it looks this specific item was the first version which was updated quickly and then remained this way for 9-10 years before no longer being produced.Last picture shows the updated 1932 version I was able to find this version in all catalogs up until the 1941 catalog, after this was no longer sold and more industrial machines took over. Something to note about the Walker-Turnver version of the tool is the 2 holes in base for mounting, a lot of other brands have 4 holes. Unit is in great condition.Has been completely dismantled, cleaned and inspected.Missing 1 oil cup, as shown in pictures the oil cups used are simple push in type.Chuck has original markings on it, but they are very faint. Chuck working well with great jaws. Also included is a custom arbor, this was attached to the chuck when I have found it, it appears previous owner made this arbor to use the chuck independent from the head.
