Haldeman-Julius, who penned several articles in the issue, The Debunker and the American Parade debuted in 1924 as a journal supporting free thought and atheism, and it addressed a vast range of topics, from politics and music to controversial areas such as sexuality and racial tensions.This particular issue from 1931 comes across as a "who's who" of influential thinkers from the time. It includes a long feature on Clarence Darrow, the lawyer from the Scopes "monkey" trial, as well as an impressive list of contributors: Science League of America founder Maynard Shipley, Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Warren, American Birth Control League founder Margaret Sanger, sexologist William Fielding, and civil rights activist Harold Preece (also a Western author and friend of Conan creator Robert E.
