The background is crafted from 1/4" plywood and is painted in two color layers then distressed to reveal the undercoat. It has "PRIMITIVES" painted on the top section, a checkerboard design in the center section and three primitive stars across the bottom, all painted in black. The entire piece has been distressed and antiqued with early american stain to give it an age old time worn appearance.
