Description: Dating to c. 1810, this fantastic perfume bottle is a joy to behold! The body has alternating stripes of mauve and white backgrounds with hand painted flowers and puffy gold flowers and swags (with some natural age-related crackling in the gold). The top of the lid repeats the pattern of the body. The underside of the bottle bears a iron-red stencilled DARTE Palais Royal No. 31 mark, and has an incised number 19 or 61 (this number is repeated on the underside of the stopper). There has been some repair to the stopper and the neck - the inside has been reinforced with metal plates (much like the old stapled repairs of the early 19th c. (please see inside of neck photo). The repair is not readily noticeable. The only thing that gives it away is the gold paint. It is, nevertheless, a rare and stunning piece. And quite impressive in its stature, standing over 6 1/2" high.Buyer will pay $50.00 for insured shipping and handling.I accept payment by paypal.
