Description: Pair of Gothic Revival Grotesque Architectural Hand-Carved Gargoyle Heads from an Edwardian Era Pennsylvania Country Club Medium- Carved Wood Size- Appropriately 7 1/2 inches x 7 1/2 inches x 7 1/2 inches (each) Provenance- Initially sold by an established New York art dealer to a significant private collection. Apparently these architectural gargoyle heads were carved by the same hand that carved similar pair of far less frightening heads as architectural details on the Crary Mansion in Binghamton, New York, built in 1897 (Elfred H. Bartoo, architect. While that pair were not weathered, they sold at Christie's auction house for $9,600 USD in 2006. Additional details are available by request Date- 1900's Condition- Beautifully and severely weathered (possibly scorched?!)… There are no signs of mold. They are absolutely perfect for what they are. Contemporary hooks have been added to the backs of each.
