Today, during one collection, 470 ml of blood is usually donated by one person. In 2006, 405,000 blood samples were taken in the Czech Republic. The basic condition for donating blood in the Czech Republic is the permanent residence of the donor in the Czech Republic, the age of the donor between 18 and 65 years, the body weight of the donor greater than 50kg. Also the donor must be healthy and mustn't be the user of drugs and some specific medicines.The donor should follow the recommended diet for at least 12 hours before collection: do not drink alcohol or milk, do not eat fatty foods (including sweet pastries), chocolate, nuts, cheese, spicy foods (including meat products, stews, etc.), fried foods, thick soups and sauces and the like. The consumption of fruit and vegetables is recommended, followed by a light breakfast (e.g. bread with marmalade) before collection. It is recommended to drink a lot (water, fruit juices, teas).When registering before collection, the donor must prove his permanent residence in the Czech Republic, i.e. he must have an identity card with him (citizen's card, passport).The total time spent at the transfusion station is roughly 1/2 to 2 hours, of which the blood collection itself takes 5 to 15 minutes (Wiki).
