It represents a new strain unearthed recently in Baker Cty. Oregon. If you know the history of eastern Oregon, you're no doubt aware that vast sums of gold were mined in the Blue Mtns. I guarantee the authenticity of this gem and the gold contained. If you're drawn to exotic rocks from the western U.S. goldfields, maybe this one's for you. When conditions are right, dissolved silicon dioxide (silica) and gold crystallize thus forming gold-bearing quartz veins. This happens as super-heated, aqueous solutions, rich in silica and assorted minerals migrate into cracks, fissures, fault zones, and other permeable rock formations. As these pregnant hot waters cool, metals like gold, along with quartz, precipitate and harden; all part of a process known as metallogenesis. Over time, weathering causes bits of gold quartz filling these veins to break off. Nuggets, gold flakes, flour gold, and float rock are the result. Vein filling which retains the host rock and harbors it's precious cargo, gold, if dense enough, can become one of the earth's more highly-prized gemstone mediums. Just to liven things up, mineral compositions vary inside different vein systems. This translates to an interesting variety of matrix colors. I deal in native minerals with visible gold, not replicas, not 'paint-ons'. I don't peddle 'simulated' specimens made with minute amounts of gold or no real gold at all. No fake nuggets here, folks. I was a professional placer miner myself and personally have bought stuff with gold painted on it. Some so-called 'natural gold quartz' specimens acquired had tiny chunks of placer gold glued into the vugs of barren rock. If folks want to fake their specimens, then it should be required they advertise their products as simulations or replications. All my advertised specimens, slabs, cabochons, gold ores et al are authentic and contain naturally-occurring, native gold and/or are composed almost entirely of naturally-occurring gold (i.e. gold nuggets, gold flakes, wire gold specimens). The purity of this gold will vary, but you can generally count on it being fairly high, from 70% to 90% pure on average. For comparision, a 14K gold wedding band is 58% pure gold.
