Considered one of the finest defensive shortstops in the game, he was a 3 time All-Star and holds several defensive fielding records including the all time record for double plays turned. He played his first 5 seasons for the Seattle Mariners followed by the Cleveland Indians, Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox and Toronto Blue Jays. Omar was a coach with the Angels in 2013 and for the Detroit Tigers from 2014-2017. He managed Toros de Tijuana in the Mexican League for 3 seasons as well. He's a published author and helped raised over $500,000 for the 1999 victims of the mudslides in his native Venezuela.
