Key below title identifies 14 different key routes across the country, including the Pony Express. Large vignette scene of Fort Laramie across the bottom, map set within ornamental multi-colored geometric border. Light uniform paper age toning, overall waviness to sheet, faint light old damp staining across bottom edge, remaining clean - a pleasing visual example of this delightful map. Apparently also re-issued in 1959, this appears to be the First issue. Sheet measures c. 17" x 24 3/4". Printed area measures c. 16" x 24 1/4 Tooley's Dictionary of Mapmakers, not listed (but should be, given he created other Western themed maps for schools as well).
