Description: Interesting and beautiful old early 20th century (1890s - 1920s) Northwest Coast objects, which were made for the early curio market, are quite collectible these days. In my opinion, they are just as important as their earlier ceremonial 19th century counterparts. This well crafted object was manufactured by a talented Haida artist who would've been the not too distant descendant of a 19th century mastercarver. These fascinating early curios are quite important in their own right!!! This rattle depicts an old Haida matriarch. The attention to details and facial features is amazing. There's an Abalone shell inset (the labret) in the lower lip. The traditional red/black/green and white surface paint has faded away in some parts therby exposing the beautiful grain of the Red Cedar wood. Yes; this is a genuine NWC historic artifact! Regrettably, there are far toooo many Indonesian fakes; this, is the real deal -- buy with confidence. Measurements: length 11.25 inches; width 5.5 inches.
