Description: A truly-striking French Napoleon III (19th C.) Period inlaid glove box. - Appears to be either thuya, or amboyna, burlwood; both having a rich and beautiful grain character.- Fine etched 'bone' inlay, set in ebonized reserves, frames the burlwood....most beautifully!- Stunning red-silk, button-tufted interior is in wonderful condition.- Slightly domed top - Measures, overall, 12 1/2" long x 4 1/8" deep x 3 1/4" high.- I don't have the key, but, if that is important to you....they tend to be fairly 'simple' in form, so one could likely be acquired. - There is a slight gap along the front cover-to-body joint, when closed....quite typical for the age, and, indeed, far less than most, and less than glove boxes much 'younger'...! I gave it a polish/treatment with 'Renaissance Wax', to preserve and fully-present the inherent beauty. It is remarkable for a piece such as this to be in such fine condition, after 150+ years....and, importantly, the condition conveys the original beauty so truly beautifully.
