Description: Napoleon III Grand Tour Perfume Bottle Ruby Glass 5 Paris Miniature Watercolors Napoleon III (France, c. 1852-1870) Grand Tour: Paris, Perfume Bottle, c. 1860 Ruby Glass, Gilt Metal, Hand-Painted 5” high x 2 7/8” wide (@ bracket feet) Description: A Napoleon III Grand Tour perfume bottle made of ruby glass embellished with ornate gilt mounts and tracery, and featuring five hand-painted scenes of notable Parisienne landmarks: Palais Royale, Avenue des Champs-Élysées, Place de La Concord, L’Arc de Triumphe, Luxor Obelisk, Notre Dame, Place de La Madelaine, etc.. unsigned, flat-cut base with polished pontil, circa 1860. Condition: Antique, Good For Accuracy: an antique it may show expected light signs of age. The lid watercolor shows signs of water damage as the glass cover has at some point been removed and not completely reseated. There is glue to the inside of the lid as it appears someone has tried to reseat the glass cover by force and instead pushed through the upper support. The hinge location is awkward and thus the lid doesn’t close completely, while the hinge works well the bottle remains in a slightly open position. The stopper appears original and is in good condition. The body, glass, and feet are very nice with only some general wear to the gilt as is commonly found on these perfumes.
