Description: Three original cartes de visite of the members of a notorious and scandalous 1870s love triangle. James "Diamond Jim" Fisk was a wealthy American stock broker who had an affair with showgirl Josie Mansfield. Mansfield fell in love with Fisk's business partner Edward S. Stokes, who then left his family for her. Josie then left Fisk. Mansfield and Stokes then tried to extort money from Fisk by threatening to publish letters from Fisk to Mansfield that would have basically ruined him, but Fisk refused to pay. An angry Stokes shot and killed Fisk in New York city on January 6, 1872. Fisk gave a dying declaration identifying Stokes as the killer, and Stokes served four years of a six year prison sentence for manslaughter. Each CDV is about 4" x 2.5". The lot is in overall good or better antique condition. Shipping: Choice of ground advantage photo mailer or boxed Priority Mail.
