Description: Mortens Studios, particularly known for their highly detailed hand crafted figural sculptures. Oscar Mortens immigrated from Sweden to Illinois after studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm as well as the Berlin Academy of Art. He started his own studio in the 1930s and created his art before closing sometime around 1950. These are created in a unique way. Oscar would make a wire frame for the interior of each piece and then a plaster/ceramic mix (think chalkware with a better pottery fired glaze) was applied to the exterior. The piece was then hand painted with its own personality and fired. This vintage piece is in good overall condition with a few small glaze chips, please see pictures.
