Description: Autographed large 8.5" x 11.75" presentation photograph on a heavy photographers mount as Mimi, Duben, 1949. The Czech soprano (1908-1992) was born in Prague, she received a PhD in Philology in 1933 from the Charles University in Prague. She studied music privately at first and attended music courses at the Masaryk Folk Institute. She went to Bratislava to study singing with C.Steinbrücková and then returned to Prague to study with the noted tenor Fernando Carpi. From 1933 to 1935 she was engaged in Pilsen and also performed at the Opera Studio in Prague from 1933-1934 singing Marenka in the The Bartered Bride and Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor. From 1935 to 1939 she was a member of the Slovak National Theater Bratislava, and also appeared at the Volksoper in Vienna. She returned to Prague after the annexation of Austria. She was then given a contract at the suggestion of Vaclav Talich for the National Theater where she performed in 1939 as Micaela and Marenka. She remained with the company singing lyrical roles until her retirement in 1973. In addition to singing, she was a translator, opera director and singing teacher. She translated lyrics for opera and oratorio libretto. From 1962 to 1968 she taught solo singing at the Prague Conservatory and further taught at the AMU Music School from 1963 to 1979.Mint condition!
