About Jackets: The dustjacket offered in this auction is digitally scanned from a high quality original. The master is then carefully restored to remove any minor imperfections. This significantly enhances the eye appeal rather than just offering a color photocopy with flaws. Great care is taken to painstakingly retouch these images with emphasis on maintaining the full scope of the original artwork and preserving the texture and granularity of the original. The dustjacket is then printed on an industrial quality machine which far exceeds the image quality possible on any inkjet printer, and produces sharper, crisper images and much better color definition (tone, hue & saturation) with pleasing results. About Postage: Combined shipping: Dustjackets are shipped boxed & wrapped via USPS First Class Parcel. First remastered dustjacket is $3.00. Each additional dustjacket is only 50c. Any extra postage charged at eBay checkout will be refunded. About Title: The summer occupants of "Sunnyside" find themselves involved in many mysteries. She was normally quite a sensible woman. But the shadowy face peering in the window and the crashing metallic sound at midnight almost had Rachel Innes convinced her rented summer house was haunted. All in all she was relieved when Gertrude and Halsey arrived to keep their dear old aunt company -- and allow her the courtesy of a decent night's sleep....Unfortunately, the explosive sound of a revolver shot the next night shattered Rachel's hopes. The dead body of Arnold Armstrong, son of the owner, is found at the foot of the circular staircase ensuring many sleepless nights to follow. Following the murder a bank failure is announced, and word is received from California that Paul Armstrong, president of the bank, has died very suddenly. Here the author stars the working out of a plot which lends itself to much supposition and constant change of opinion as to the real criminals. Is John Bailey, the bank cashier and the young man to whom Gertrude Innes is engaged guilty of the double crime? Is Halsey Innes guilty of the murder? Or Gertrude? For it seemed Rachel's own nieces and nephew were the prime suspects in the murder. Or is it at the door of some person on whom suspicion does not seem to fall? Events point first to one and then another, and a story of absorbing interest is developed along lines that will hold the most jaded novel reader. And dear Aunt Rachel had suddenly acquired a taste for sleuthing... About Author: Mary Roberts Rinehart [1876-1958], born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was a best selling author for several decades in the early 20th century. She gained immediate success with her first mystery novel, The Circular Staircase in 1908 which was followed by several more very successful mysteries establishing her popularity as America's Agatha Christie. Many of her novels were made into theatrical productions as well as silent films. Her wildly popular first novel, The Circular Staircase would later be made into a 1920 Broadway play titled The Bat. Later, The Bat would be produced as both a 1926 United Artists silent film, and later remade as a 1390 United Artists talkie titled The Bat Whispers.
