Description: Rarely seen for sale is this Luigi Kasimir hand-signed original etching entitled "New York Harbor". Measures 11.25 x 16.625 plate size and 19.5 x 24.75 inches sheet size. Slight mat burn outside of the printed subject but won’t show when matted and, if you prefer, I can suggest an excellent restorer, but I would leave it as is. Kasimir was one of the early artists who developed the multi-plate color etching. Before him, prints were usually hand-colored and the color was not always applied carefully. Kasimir would first create a sketch in pastel, then transfer the design on as many as six plates, printing one after another and applying the colors to the respective plates by hand. His subject matter covered landscapes, commercial projects, architectural studies and even American national parks. He finest prints date to the 1920's.
