Description: In 2001, Lionel Trains licensed the production of this tin toy replica of the Rail Zeppelin by the Schylling Toy Company. The Rail Zeppelin was a famous German train designed by Franz Kruckenberg that was tested in 1931 and achieved a record breaking speed of 142.9 mph on a test run between Hamburg and Berliln. Even though it was never put into production, the rail zeppelin made an important contribution to the development of high speed rail transportation. This wind-up tin train is designed to run on the floor or an "O" track. It measures 12-3/8"L x 3"H at the propeller. It has a sleek, futuristic art deco design and is painted an atrtractive yellow with red accents. It appears never to have been removed from the box.
