Description: Offered here is a scarce large-sized badge for the Citizens' Military Training Camps (CMTC). The CMTC was an organization which was founded between the wars (sometime between the late 20s and mid-30s to provide basic military training to civilians in anticipation of the need for preparation in the event of another war (i.e., WWII). The badge is round, 2" in diameter, with red white and blue enamel in the center and the legends "National Defense" and "Citizens' Military Training Camps". It appears to be made of copper or bronze. The legend around the edge ways "The Army of the United States.Regular Army.Organized Reserves.National Guard." The reverse is hallmarked Bastian Brothers and has a locking clasp back. Overall condition is averaged used, with some discoloration to the white enamel that could possibly be cleaned but I haven't tried it. There is a slight ding at the top (see illustration), visible but minor. Not sure whether or not this is a hat badge of some kind of a breast badge. Uncommon badge, only the second of this size I have seen. Probably mid-late 1930s vintage. See illustrations. Winning bidder pays $4.25 for first class mail shipping. I ship exclusively by U.S. mail.
