This miniature is monogrammed "J.B.", which could very likely be a signature of the well-known Viennese miniaturist Johann Georg Bauer. Johann Georg Bauer (1743 Vienna – 1804 ibidem) studied at the Vienna Academy under J.M. Schmutzer, Troger and Unterberger. Schidlof says, "he was a clever miniaturist who seems to have enjoyed a certain repute in his period..." He also was a member of the St. Petersburg Academy, which confirms his stay in Russia.
