Offered here is - at least to my humble Dead Fan ears -- one of, if not " the best " Garcia studio effort. And this one, being released in 1974 is just about so perfectly fitting. Just think, in '74 - the Grateful Dead were at a Peak / Prime period ... while they also decided to take a " Hiatus " from performing together live as the Grateful Dead ... Old & In The Way had finished their final ' Live ' performance ... and Garcia & Merl Saunders were also playing together in the " Garcia / Saunders Band " ! One might ask how Jerry even had any-time to put together a Studio Album ??! Well ... Jerry being Jerry actually managed to work-on & release what might have been his very-best studio album ?? Well, I know -- the critics might say that " Garcia / Garcia " was the best-ever, and even Garcia would have told you ( & actually ' said ' ! ) that " Cats Under The Stars " was his ' Best ' - and the one he was most proud of. For me personally ? Well, I put this one right-up-there with both ! of those. I'd have to even say that this original studio release was one of the most " Influential " Garcia releases of my Entire Childhood - when growing up ( well, you know ... Ha ! ). I'll just recite the Tracks here for a second, and you can tell me if your on board with me too ? Let It Rock - When The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game - That's What Love Will Make You Do - Russian Lullaby - Turn On The Bright Lights - He Ain't Give You None - What Goes Around - Let's Spend The Night Together - Mississippi Moon - and ... Midnight Town. Wow ... Hey, I mean I remember buying this when it was released on analog cassette in the Early-'90's - and I wore that one out -- which left me again seeking another ! I think ... this one is just that-good. Lots of Great ! Covers too, meaning that Jerry could really groove to playing & laying down tracks to the music that his heart desired. I mean check it out ... Chuck Berry - Irving Berlin - Van Morrison - The Rolling Stones - Peter Rowan - I mean you name it. And another thing ... if you were ever able to see the J.G.B. Live - at Church ( The Warfield ! ), or anywhere -- many of these were songs that were indeed delivered ' Live ' in his Song-rotation arsenal ... Let It Rock.., Hunter.., That's What Love.., He Ain't Give You..., Let's Spend the Night..., Mississippi Moon ! See what I mean !? Not only near & dear to Garcia's Heart ! - but to Ours too !!
