This denomination was issued in Ireland from 1928, not every year, but as required by economic necessity, until the last year of 1967. Two half pennies = 1 penny. 12 pennies = 1 shilling. 20 shillings = 1 pound. Thus, 480 half pennies or 1/2d = 1 pound. The design is by Percy Metcalf, and the initials, "P.M.," can be found beneath the base line to the pigs at the right.
