Synopsis - Few people realize that the story told in Tchaikovsky's well-known ballet, The Nutcracker, is an expansion of a very small section of the original story. First published in 1819, the tale describes seven-year old Marie's adventures when she is given a toy nutcracker for Christmas. Suddenly, the toys and dolls seem to have a life of their own, and there are mice in the house! Nothing makes sense until Marie's godfather explains about Princess Pirlipat, the cruel Mouse King, and the little Nutcracker, who must soon go to battle for his crown, his queen, and his life. Beautifully illustrated throughout with Sendak's full-color drawings. Condition Details - The book has a square spine, a very tight binding, and no marks, tears, turned down page corners, wrinkles or writing aside from the previous owner's name written discreetly at the top of the first free endpaper. The cover has sharp corners and no edgewear, soil or stains. There is mild fading at the cover edges. The textblock edges are clean. The dustjacket (in new, protective Brodart) has very light rubwear at the front flap fold and mild edgewear with tiny corner chips, no tears. No unpleasant odors. I never use stock photos.
