"Hetty and Other Stories"-Kingsley-1893 Gift Inscription-Leather & Board-Rare

Description: Offered is the antique leather and board-bound book "Hetty and Other Stories", written by Henry Kingsley and published in London by Ward, Lock and Co. The book is undated but there is a gift inscription from December, 1893. In addition to the main novel, the book contains three other shorter works (see photo #6). This is a rare find; at the time of original listing I could not find any other copies for sale on eBay and only one other elsewhere, a different edition, other than "print-on-demand" copies and other modern reprints. The book is approx. 7 1/2" x 5 1/4" and contains 344 pages. It is in good condition. The marbled leather-and-board hard cover has moderate wear, but there are some small pieces of the leather layer missing from the spine. The gold words on the spine and gold lines on the spine, front and back are still mostly intact and mostly shiny. Cracking is beginning inside the front but there is none in the back. The white endpapers are mostly clean in the back but are slightly soiled and a bit wrinkled in the front. The gift inscription is written on the first blank page. I see no missing or torn pages except for a few very small edge tears and all of the pages are well-attached to the binding. The pages have yellowed but they are mostly clean and clear, with light foxing on many pages. A few have heavier foxing. I see no writing in the book except for the inscription and a few stray pencil marks. I have a lot of experience with vintage and antique books but am not an expert so please let me know if my description is missing information and you have additional questions.
