Description: Hananiah Harari (1912-2000) is a well listed, high collected American Modernist painter. In the 1930's, he went to Paris and studied with Fernand Leger, Marcel Gromaire and Andre' L'Hote. He taught at the Art Student's League in New York and was one of the founders of the American Abstract Artists group (1936) which championed non-objective art. He worked in both a semi-abstract style and a precise realist style. He was also a noted illustrator, teacher and printmaker known for his silkscreen artworks. His works can be found in many important collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Artwork for sale is a stunning abstract using oil pastels and colored chalk on black paper. The piece is signed in white chalk at the lower left (photo 2). The colors are deep, vibrant and well-blended. This artwork measures 13" high and 19 and 1/2" across. Reminds the seller of Mark Rothko's contrasting color bands. The image looks like a colorful horizontal landscape with bands of bright red, dark blue, dark green, white, light gray, ight green, yellow and purple.
